EMTAS

Ethnic Minorities and Travellers Achievement Service

EMTAS, or Ethnic Minorities and Travellers Achievement Service, aims to ensure that all students have equal opportunities to access a high quality education so that all students achieve to the best of their potential.

We target students with English as an Additional Language (EAL), underachieving ethnic minority students and students from the Traveller community.

At John Kelly we are lucky to have an extremely diverse population, with currently 48 languages spoken. We have speakers of Arabic, Urdu, Somali, Gujarati, Farsi, Pushtu, Portuguese and French to name a few. We support students in a variety of ways including partnership teaching, induction sessions, in class support, reading club and homework club.

The EMTAS room is a busy place where many students come to learn; students use the room at lunchtimes and after school to get help with any class work, homework or coursework they may have problems with.
