The Learning Support

The Learning Support department has four teaching staff, five learning support assistants, a resources coordinator for the visually impaired and part time administrative support.

What are additional needs?

Some students find it especially difficult learning to read, write, spell, do maths or behave appropriately. These students have an additional need.

Resources

The department is well resourced with a wide range of resources to work with students at a variety of levels. There are computers available in all three of the teaching rooms.

Who gets extra support?

Some pupils are already identified as having an additional need through a

Statement of Special Educational Need, through primary school records or through the assessment process that takes place in college each October or when they join.

Rooms

There are three teaching rooms, a small office area, two resources areas and a resources area for use by the coordinator for the visually impaired.

What sort of help is available?

Statemented pupils will be usually supported in class by a learning support assistant or sometimes a teacher and she will may also be taught on a one to one basis by a learning support teacher.
