Principals Statement
I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to John Kelly Girls’ Technology College. The college has grown from 490 to 940 girls in just over a decade proving its overwhelming popularity within the local community.
We are proud of our commitment to raising standards for all our girls and ensuring that all have the opportunity to reach their highest potential. Education is about more than just examination qualifications, important as they are. As a Technology, Languages and Training College we aim to provide the girls with an understanding of the world in which they live as well as a developing knowledge of themselves as individuals during the time they spend with us.
Growing up in the 21 st Century presents many exciting challenges and opportunities which are different from those of preceding generations. This is why we look forward to the future and try to make sure that the girls are as well prepared as they can be for what lies ahead. One thing we know is that the girls will need to develop as independent learners and good team members if they are to be able to take the opportunities which they will find in the future and so we ensure that they can acquire these skills before they leave college.
We expect high standards of work and behaviour from all members of the college and firmly believe that every girl is capable of doing well. A strong pastoral team and a Positive Behaviour Management System support our girls, so that each girl can have the care and attention which she needs during her time here.
There are plenty of opportunities for our girls to develop through additional opportunities and activities which we offer through a considerable programme of extension, enhancement and enrichment studies. All of these factors and opportunities contribute to creating a college where girls can remain happy and highly motivated whilst they achieve their ambitions, and realise their potential.
I hope this provides a flavour of the friendly and supportive atmosphere within which our girls are able to pursue their studies and interests. There can, however, be no substitute for coming to visit us in person. You will be made most welcome.
Principal: Mrs Bev Bell B.Ed (Hons) MA (Ed. Man)
