| IT Essentials 2 : Network Operating Systems
IT Essentials II is a lab-based course designed to be an overview of Network Operating Systems and specifically cover the Linux Red Hat 7.2 Network Operating System.
This course introduces and covers how to use the Linux operating system and introduces the student to the Desktop Environment (KDE) and GNU Network Object Model (GNOME). An overview of the Windows 2000 Network Operating System is provided as well. The course covers concepts in TCP/IP processes and network administration.
The student learns the configuration of network services, including basic network security and troubleshooting.
The course is for Post 16 and adult students (between 3 and 6 hours per week delivered over one year (approx. 100 hours tuition or ‘fast track’ according to individual needs). The course has been adopted to allow students to engage with the course online from any location.
- Full time enrolled J.K.T.C. students who may take the course to prepare for an additional qualification.
- Full time enrolled students who opt to take the ITE 2 course in conjunction with a package of related IT professional courses. These students could be “gap” year students.
- Part or full time, fee-paying adult students.
Certification: The IT Essentials 2 provides the opportunity to prepare for the first level of certification: the CompTIA Server+ which will lay the foundation for a career as an IT networking professional. It is designed to meet employment standards for the IT industry. It also lays the foundation for networking courses e.g. Cisco CCNA and CCNP certifications which are globally recognised as the World’s no. 1 networking qualifications. Similarly, it represents an excellent course for students who have successfully completed IT Essentials 1 or have their CompTIA A+ qualification.
