(Assistant Principal i/c Training School and Language Colleges) My role is to ensure high quality guidance for all staff and to build upon our extensive range of language provision across the college. Our key aim in the Training School is to offer excellent training for teaching and support staff throughout the year. Our vision is to continue to provide a wealth of opportunities for the local authority, in terms of partnership and provision. We have managed to extend our links for Beginning Teachers to Goldsmiths College, building upon our established links with Middlesex and the Institute of Education.

(Assistant Principal i/c Training School and Technology Specialism) Welcome to our first ever Training Schools newsletter. My role in the team is to ensure high quality CPD for all staff and to improve the quality of learning and teaching across the college. JKGTC has been a Training School since 2006, following recognition by the DCSF. Following on from my arrival in September 2008, I have been very impressed with the wealth of talent and provision we offer at JKGTC. It is through this newsletter, we aim to showcase plans, successes and developments for all staff within the college or with our links across the world. Please get in touch, should you have any suggestions or would like to express ideas about collaboration. See contact details below.

(Administrator Support to the Training School) My role within the Training School is to offer support in terms of ideas, planning and organisation. A key responsibility is to ensure all necessary paperwork is organised and delivered to all staff, to ensure high quality service for any pending events. If you have any requests for INSET or need any advice regarding courses or CPD sessions, I would be happy to help and look forward to supporting your needs.
  • N. McCann

    Nimet McCann [email me]

(Head of Science Faculty) Working with the Associate Vice Principal Angela Mngaza, I recently attended a SSAT conference “Leading a Science department in a Specialist Science Technology College” at Ellin Wilkinson School. This was to represent JKGTC and use the opportunity for sharing good practice. I gave a presentation on the work of my department. Our science faculty has been awarded to major grants from STEM and the TDA (CPD project). Not only was the conference an excellent opportunity to represent the faculty and the school, I was able to network, share ideas and develop a clearer vision in terms of developing STEM enrichment activities and CPD for my departmental staff. I hope to use this experience as a basis for developing and encouraging more girls to choose careers in science and to ensure specific CPD for my staff.

As centres of excellence for training, Training Schools act as experts in adult learning and the transfer of skills, and provide a venue for high quality professional development. It is expected that they will contribute to supporting the whole school workforce through providing a balance of training programmes that are personalised, relevant and contribute to teaching and learning. When working with colleagues that are joining the profession, Training Schools must expect their school-based support to model good practice and complement any professional standards. Other features of the role will be to extend the spread and reach of the school's work as an advocate and adviser for education and training, both locally and nationally.
